• This fabric has been printed by hand using a traditional wooden block print. Each print is lined up by eye which results in a lovely uneven print. This unevenness in colour and texture is characteristic of this print method and is not a fault. This quilt was hand made by a woman’s co-operative in Bengal. The front surface is hand block-printed, the backing uses cloth recycled from vintage saris – while in between are layers of cotton sheeting. The hand stitch that holds the layers together is called kantha - a traditional Bengali technique that is both practical and decorative.
